1. Pulmonary Rehabilitation: Indications and Programs
This chapter reviews the background, indications, and specific activities of a pulmonary rehabilitation program. The benefits of pulmonary rehabilitation will be discussed in regard to preventing the causes of disability associated with pulmonary disease.
2. Disease Conditions Requiring Pulmonary Rehabilitation
This chapter reviews disease conditions requiring pulmonary rehabilitation, including conditions such as chronic bronchitis, emphysema, asthma, and cystic fibrosis. The relatively recent indications for pulmonary rehabilitation in more atypical rehabilitation conditions such as lung cancer, lung transplant, obesity, sleep apnea, and ventilator dependency will be included.
3. The Role of the Rehabilitation Nurse in Pulmonary Rehabilitation
The rehabilitation nurse’s role in caring for patients with respiratory disorders is essential to promote positive patient outcomes. This chapter reviews the role of the rehabilitation nurse on the pulmonary rehabilitation team, and addresses appropriate nursing interventions for the pulmonary rehabilitation patient.
